I had a great discussion with my friend tonight about how people can be such "Haters" towards Cosplay. We were especially surprised that so many of our Gamer-nerd friends and Halloween Lovers could treat us as outcasts upon revealing that we would participate in Cosplay.
I know someone who appreciates well-designed costumes, wears costumes on Halloween, and plays video games like a nerdy maniac. Then, oddly to me, he despises Cosplay. I don't understand it.
Cosplay means Costume Play. Halloween is Costume Play. Even though there can be variables as to how much Role-playing is involved, these two events contain practically the same elements.
So, why like one, and then despise the other? Why play video games all day long, and despise someone who Cosplays once a year? Why dress for one, and shun the other?
It makes no sense.
